Chronic Fatigue

An increasing number of young people suffer from chronic fatigue in the UK. Often it follows a viral illness and can be very debilitating lasting many months and impacting a lot on all aspects of life including school, family and friends.

Young people may become exhausted doing very little, spend large amounts of time in bed, suffer from poor concentration, low mood and even memory problems. It can be a very distressing experience for both them and their family.

Treatment for chronic fatigue

An empathetic approach which is centred around the young person yet structured tends to work best.

Collaboration with other agencies and services (which may include school, GP, physiotherapy and sometimes occupational therapy) is essential. Often a Solution Focussed approach which helps an individual build on strengths combined with a graded exercise program and sometimes medication to help with low mood  can yield the best results.
